Pride & Justice

16 How much better it is to get wisdom than gold!
And to get understanding is to be chosen above silver.

17 The highway of the upright is to depart from evil;
He who watches his way preserves his life.

18 Pride goes before destruction,
And a haughty spirit before stumbling.

19 It is better to be humble in spirit with the lowly
Than to divide the spoil with the proud.

20 He who gives attention to the word will find good,
And blessed is he who trusts in the Lord.

21 The wise in heart will be called understanding,
And sweetness of speech increases persuasiveness.

22 Understanding is a fountain of life to one who has it,
But the discipline of fools is folly.

23 The heart of the wise instructs his mouth
And adds persuasiveness to his lips.

24 Pleasant words are a honeycomb,
Sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.

Proverbs 16:16-24

Antonym: Humility

Pride is such an interesting deception. Pride used in the world sounds like:

Take pride in what you do for work”

Take pride in who you are [ethnic background, ordnance you live in, culture you come from, country you live in, political viewpoint, family values you were born with]”

Take pride in having [shelter, family, food, technology, vehicle]”

Pride has an attractive lure that can lead you into a pit. Creating you to you head down a path of feeling unfulfilled and broken. Pride is a tool of deception. Without knowing and understanding what pride means, it would be next to impossible to realize why one should not be prideful, have pride, or even that they struggle with pride.

You shouldn’t have to take pride in anything.

Let us take a look and discover the origins of pride and how The Lord looks at pride.

So is pride a good thing?
Negative, with pride comes dishonor, insecurity, and fear of loss.
When pride comes, then comes disgrace,
but with the humble is wisdom.
Proverbs 11:2
Sooooo….what you’re saying is that I can just be humble and others won’t think I am prideful?

Yes. God does not want your pride in His Kingdom.

One’s pride will bring him low,
but he who is lowly in spirit will obtain honor.
Proverbs 29:23

The Lord knows the true condition of your heart and how you view self/others.

8 Their land is filled with idols;
they bow down to the work of their hands,
to what their own fingers have made.
9 So man is humbled,
and each one is brought low—
do not forgive them!
Isaiah 2:8,9
I’ve battled against pride for a long time. When I got really hurt in my life, I decided that I would build a façade so that other people would not see me hurt or how much pain I went through. Maybe you can think of areas in your life that you tend to “cast a big shadow” and pretend like you are bigger than you already are.
If I find myself being prideful then what do I do?

For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Is it not those inside the church whom you are to judge? God judges those outside. “Purge the evil person from among you.”
1 Corinthians 5:12,13

We look for justice, not living life “just-for-us.” We look to righteousness in our heart, thoughts, actions and those that are our brothers and sisters in Christ. We judge ourselves morally according to God’s Word and not our interpretation of it or what someone told you who God was and what his word said. We do this to look into the perfect law to discover about how to govern our lives effectively.
God did not want us to be without or lack anything, which is why He gave His own life to cleanse us from all uncleanliness.
Jesus raised the bar on practicing and non-practicing Jews, He brought the Torah to life through walking on the planet. Living as Christ did, He did exactly what Isaiah 1:17 talked about. We have to come to the conclusion to raise the bar on our own code of ethics, come under the instruction of the entire Bible, and receive the freedom that starts and ends with Jesus Christ.
The only thing stopping you is you. Receive the discipline from The Lord. Choose to lower pride and accept discipline from The Lord.

Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge,
but he who hates reproof is stupid.
Proverbs 12:1

Gain wisdom, love discipline, enjoy the walk that he has for you.
Remember saints, what you are doing is falling in love with Him. Pursuing Jesus with your whole heart. For those that do will inherit the crown of life that He has promised us. Follow The Lord. Follow the calling of God on your life. Be obedient. Listen to Him. Stop running from the righteousness in your heart.
Don’t just study about justice, be justice.

9 How can a young man keep his way pure?
By guarding it according to your word.

 10 With my whole heart I seek you;
let me not wander from your commandments!
11 I have stored up your word in my heart,
that I might not sin against you.

Psalm 119:9-11

Wrapping Up:

Do not allow pride to choke out your spirit man. Learn how to defend against pride. Do not allow yourself the opportunity to take glory away from The Lord Jesus Christ. He is the way, truth, and the life. No one gets to the Father except through him. Be an imitator of Jesus.

Endure. Love those around you. Digest The Word of God.

What goes into your heart will become your thoughts, which will turn into your words, and will become your actions.

Do not be deceived on the way of love in the world.

Live as Rabbi Jesus. Be unconditional. Be a son/daughter to Christ and serve The Lord. God will pour in and provide, don’t let fear grip you.

Love you all from the bottom of my heart. I pray that your heart be touched and that you pass this good news about pride to your brothers and sisters and those in need.
Take root, bear fruit!
